Babou is a little boy with a very big heart.
He loves to laugh, play, and explore all day long.
But when the sun goes down, things feel different.
The room gets darker.
The shadows get bigger.
Babou pulls his blanket close.
“Why does the dark feel so scary?” he whispers.
He listens closely.
Every tiny sound feels loud.
Tap… tap…
Is that the window?
Babou’s heart goes thump-thump-thump.
“I wish I was brave,” he says softly.
Then he remembers something Mama once told him…
“Being brave doesn’t mean you’re not scared.”
“It means you keep going, even when you are.”
Babou takes a deep breath.
He peeks at the shadows again.
“Oh!” he smiles.
“That’s just my chair… and my teddy, Mr. Toodles!”
The dark doesn’t feel so big anymore.
“I can do this,” Babou says proudly.
And that night, Babou fell asleep, feeling brave inside his heart.
